WHAT: Introduction to Nature Printing - one day workshop
DATE: Saturday 8th August 2026.
TIME: 10am - 4 pm. Morning tea provided. Bring your own lunch.
WITH: Vanessa Johnstone and Kaye Dixon*.
Come and experience the magic of nature printing! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn how to create botanical monoprints that reveal the intricate details of leaves, grasses, and flowers. Together, we will create unique artworks using plant and nature matter. You will leave the session with your own set of beautiful, handmade prints.
We will guide you with step-by-step demonstrations of nature printing processes and assist you in creating your own artwork.
As a beginner’s workshop we will cover
history of monoprinting with plants
examples of nature printing
materials needed
plants fresh dry foraged
how to successfully dry plant matter, flat and print ready
suggested papers to use
rolling out ink
how to use and set the press
All materials provided. You are welcome to bring some plant matter (fresh of dried).
You will come away with examples of your prints.
*About the facilitators
Vanessais a highly experienced printmaker whose practice is deeply rooted in her intuitive connection with nature. Drawing inspiration from the organic world, she creates richly layered works that reflect the textures and rhythms found in the natural world. With a lifelong involvement in the arts Vanessa brings both depth and refinement to her practice. She holds a Graduate Diploma of Printmaking and a Fine Arts Degree from RMIT, as well as a Diploma in art therapy.
Kaye’s love of nature, mythology, and her belief in the sacredness of all things informs her art practice. Kaye has exhibited internationally, nationally, and locally. Kaye has a Degree in Visual Arts, majoring in Photography. She has studied alternative print making and recently has been exploring printmaking skills in dry etching, linocut, nature printing and eco printing, in collaboration with other printmakers at Castlemaine Press. She is experimenting with ways to combine the different processes.
